Shared Living

Ohio Shared Living is a supportive residential option designed for adults with developmental disabilities who benefit from a stable and family-like living environment. This program allows individuals to live with a family member or a caregiver in a private home, rather than in a traditional group setting or institutional facility. The goal of Shared Living is to provide personalized care and meaningful daily support in a setting that promotes comfort, inclusion, and independence.

In a Shared Living arrangement, the individual with a developmental disability lives full-time with one or more caregivers or family members who take on the responsibility of providing at least twenty percent or more of the individual’s direct care and support services. These caregivers play a crucial role in the individual’s life, offering assistance with daily living tasks, helping with medication management, supporting health and safety needs, and encouraging active participation in the community.

The home-based environment fosters strong, trusting relationships and allows support to be naturally integrated into the person’s daily life. This setting helps individuals with developmental disabilities build skills, gain confidence, and enjoy a higher quality of life in a place that feels like home. Shared Living also encourages meaningful social connections and offers the opportunity for deeper emotional bonds between the caregiver and the person receiving support.

Overall, Ohio Shared Living empowers individuals with developmental disabilities to live more independently, while still receiving the guidance and support they need from someone who is invested in their well-being and long-term success.
